Derome expands and acquires AB Okome Träindustri

Swedens largest family owned timber business, Derome Group, has aquired AB Okome Träindustri. This increases the Derome Group from three to four sawmills.

The aquisition of AB Okome Träindustrin further consolidates Derome Group’s strong market position and also enables continued expansion in line with customer growth. ”We have reached maximum capacity in our three existing sawmills and the need for an additional plant is essential”, explains Gunnar Jakobsson, Managing Director, Derome Timber. “During the recent years we have, when there has been lack of capacity in our own sawmills, planed our products at Okome with great results. The acquisition is a result of a long-term cooperation and enables us to keep offering delivery reliability and service to our customers”.

AB Okome Träindustri was founded in 1928 and is since then family owned, today by the third generation. The Okome sawmill has a production capacity of 45 000 m3 sawn timber per year and Derome intends to increase the capacity further. “The Okome sawmill is located close to our Derome sawmills and this enables synergies in terms of raw material procurement and market position”, Gunnar Jakobsson continues. “Okome is a strong brand in the Dutch market and Derome is well known in Europe and North Africa”.

Jan Persson, Managing Director for AB Okome Träindustri, emphasizes the opportunity that generates the acquisition: “As we already have a long-term cooperation with Derome, this is a natural step for us. Derome has proved to be a good business partner, encouraging values such as long-term focus on production and business acumen. These are valuable principles as we now enter a new era to develop the business further”.

Derome Timber will manage the business as from 1st January 2016. Business and brand will from then be brand-named Derome.
